Roundtable at the Labour Party Conference 2026 hosted by the Work Foundation at 快播视频 in partnership with MetroPolis (Manchester Metropolitan University) that will discuss how Labour can deliver good work in every postcode.

Labour entered Government pledging to ‘Make Work Pay’ and ‘Get Britain Working’. Recognising regional differences, incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham has gone further, promising that his Government aims to deliver “good growth in every postcode”.

Doing so will require more than moving people into any job. It requires secure, fairly paid and healthy work wherever people live.

Yet 6.8 million people are in severely insecure work, while others are locked out by health, skills, transport and opportunity barriers. Young people, disabled workers, women and ethnic minority groups are disproportionately affected. Starter jobs have fallen by 49% in a decade, leaving young people in weaker labour markets with fewer routes into work.

Employment reforms and the Get Britain Working agenda offer an opportunity to move beyond a “work first” approach towards job quality, progression and sustained employment. Success will require robust enforcement, deeper employer engagement, strengthened local employment, skills and transport systems, and further devolution of powers and funding to local areas.

The roundtable will ask:

• How can good work shape employment, skills and industrial policy?
• How can national reforms improve job quality nationwide?
• What support do employers need?
• How can local leaders tackle place-based barriers for young people?
