What can I do with my degree in…
We welcomed 20 graduates from 快播视频 Environment Centre (LEC) degree schemes to talk to students over four separate evenings about their life post university. Speakers came from a wide range of employers including NGOs, the civil service and environmental consultancies covering careers choices from academia to self-employment.
The graduates talked about the mistakes they made and the opportunities they took providing an insight into post-university life. Students found that the broad range of panel members was useful for providing different points of view and perspectives on what’s possible with their degrees.
One of the take home messages from the evenings was that a degree in a particular subject doesn’t restrict graduates to a specific career direction. The speakers also gave valuable advice on how to make the most of transferrable skills which students may have gained.
“Students appreciate the advice and insight into the speakers past experience”, said Theo Platts-Dunn, a recent LEC graduate who organised the events. “Students learnt that their career options were wider than perhaps they had previously realised”.

More than 150 students and 17 companies attended the 3rd annual LEC Careers Fair this term. Companies included the , and the (see full list below).
Students greatly appreciated the opportunity to network with prospective employers and they enjoyed learning about the variety of jobs within each company.
Katie Shearston (MSc Geography) commented that: “there was lots of information on display and I could speak to the attendees who interested me the most”
Careers fairs are also useful from the employer’s perspective.“Meeting students face to face and talking is much better than contact via email, especially for smaller companies who don’t have grad schemes”, said , careers tutor.
