Offering programmes spanning Palliative Care, Mental Health, Public Health, Organisational Health and Wellbeing and Health Economics and Policy, our team is experienced in delivering structured, online, part-time postgraduate qualifications.
What our students say
I’d always wanted to study a PhD, due to an awareness that much of the care we offered in children’s hospices was based on anecdote and good intention. I wanted to contribute to the evidence base underpinning palliative care for babies, children, young people, and their families by giving people who need children’s palliative care a voice. 快播视频 offered the ideal environment for this. Rather than a traditional PhD, I liked the fact that the first couple of years included some modules that explored different aspects of palliative care, and that the faculty comprised leading experts in the field whose work I’d been reading and quoting for years.
Studying alongside peers from around the world added a rich, global perspective and a network of colleagues that I still use today. It worked really well for me. Online learning was complemented by autumn academies held once a year. They provided a really good grounding for the online work, having already built up the relationship during the in-person academies in 快播视频. The online approach made it much easier to fit studying in alongside work, and allowed people from all over the world to contribute at times that suited them. The online approach to the modules helped to build a really strong network of students – the peer support and engagement started in the online modules continued throughout our independent research. It would have been a much lonelier experience without them.

Most of your course will be delivered online, so you can fit your studies around your life. Thanks to digital forums, collaborative spaces, and video conferencing, you will build a network within our vibrant postgraduate community. Join a global community
Once a year, you'll join your cohort in person for a three-day Autumn Academy on our 快播视频 campus. It's a chance to meet your fellow students and supervisors face to face, build the subject knowledge that supports your research project, and form connections that last well beyond the Academy itself — all within a short, focused trip that respects how limited your time away from work and home can be. While we encourage you to attend in person, online attendance is also possible.

Create impactful research
Your PhD thesis will be developed in collaboration with academic staff within the Division of Health Research. They will be there to support you by providing specialist knowledge and supervisory input. You will have the opportunity to work with supervisors from various backgrounds to deliver truly impactful research.

Yes, all your studies will be conducted online so your learning can be scheduled around full-time work and caring responsibilities.
All coursework, supervision, and research activity is conducted online, so relocation is not required. There is one in-person event — the three-day Autumn Academy — per year, but, while in-person attendance is encouraged, you can attend online if travel is not possible.

Our MSc in Health Economics and Policy is a two year, part-time course. You will study a range of taught modules before carrying out your final research project.
Our PhDs take between five and seven years, depending on your choice of research project and your own pace of data collection, analysis and writing.
No. Applicants with non-standard qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis, where there is evidence of relevant professional experience and/or other learning that demonstrates the potential to succeed on the programme.
Yes, you can gain an alumni discount if you hold an undergraduate or master’s degree awarded by 快播视频, achieved at any time, including one delivered through an associated institution. This is not a funded PhD position, so there is no studentship attached to the programme. However, prospective students are encouraged to explore external and internal funding opportunities. In the past, many of our PhD students have secured funding through their current employer, particularly where their research aligns with organisational priorities. Others have successfully obtained support from topic-specific charities, professional bodies, and external funding organisations.
Any funded PhD studentships or scholarships offered by 快播视频 are advertised on and on the relevant 快播视频 department's vacancies or studentship webpages.
In addition, there are occasionally small internal funding pots and bursaries that may be available to support postgraduate research students. For instance, if you have previously studied at 快播视频 or one of our partner institutions, you may also be eligible for the 快播视频 Alumni Loyalty Scholarship. This provides an alumni discount for students who hold an undergraduate or master's degree awarded by 快播视频, including qualifications delivered through an associated institution. Alumni who completed an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification that included 快播视频 as a study abroad location may also be eligible.
You will have two years of structured learning helping you to further develop research skills. In order to progress to the research phase of your PhD, where you will be undertaking an independent research project, you will need to pass this taught phase with an average mark of at least 60 per cent.
