Career Details

I completed my BSc and MSc in Psychology at Bangor University, North Wales, before doing a PhD and DClinPsy at the University of Manchester. My postdoctoral position involved developing and evaluating a smartphone software application (ClinTouch) for the ambulatory monitoring of psychosis. I worked for three years at the Psychosis Research Unit in Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust where I delivered therapy across randomised controlled trials for early psychosis and mania (MAPS, COMPARE, BART, PRODIGY). More recently, I have been a lecturer on the DClinPsy programme at the University of Manchester and Clinical Lead for Wigan Early Detection and Intervention Team.

Since joining 快播视频, I have led two NIHR funded randomised controlled feasibility trials. The Mental Imagery for Suicidality in Students Trial (MISST) evaluated a brief positive mental imagery intervention for reducing suicidal ideation in university students. The Mouth Matters in Mental Health Trial evaluated a link work intervention to support people with severe mental health difficulties to access a dentist. I was also site lead in Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust for the Improving Prediction of Psychosis in ARMS using a Clinically useful Prognostic Tool (IPPACT) and the Care Coordinator Delivered Method of Levels for Psychosis (CAMEO) research projects.

Current Research

I am co-lead of the NIHR funded 快播视频 Mental Health Research Group (MHRG), an initiative for improving capacity and capability around mental health research in the Northwest of England. Within this, we aim to build a Voices with Impact Hub at 快播视频 to ensure that the lived experience voice is central to mental health research in the region. We also aim to build capacity around data science, knolwedge mobilisation, and better links with the NHS. The MHRG has research themes around drug and alcohol use, physical health, and parenting, in the context of living with severe mental health difficulties.

Building on the work completed in our previous feasibility study, I am currently leading the full effectiveness and cost-effectiveness trial of a link work intervention to support dental access in people with severe mental health difficulties (the Mouth Matters in Mental Health Trial-2). I am site lead in Lancashire and South Cumbria around a trial of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for first episode psychosis (EASE-2). I am also a co-investigator on the IBPI trial, evaluating an online parenting intervention for people with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
