Dr Farid Aiouache

Senior Lecturer

Research Overview

I have been a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering since November 2012 and hold M.Eng, MSc, and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from Nagoya University, Japan (PhD, March 2003). My doctoral research focused on hybrid processes and the transport effects on reactive distillation efficiency. I subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Nagoya Industrial Science Research Institute, Japan (2003–2005), and as a Project Engineer in the oil and gas sector in Calgary, Canada (2005–2006). I then served as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast (2006–2012).

My research applies the concepts of recent advances in Process Intensification and Reaction Engineering, underpinned by sustainable development, safety, and environmentally friendly operations. I am particularly interested in intensification of process transport, the synergetic integration of processes (reaction, separation, fluid flow, external field activation, transient operations & dynamic monitoring and control via in situ sensing, including the innovative instrumentation based on spatio-temporal spectroscopic techniques for functional materials and energy conversion.
